A chaplain can appear stylized and archaic in their power armor compared to their Astartes counterparts, making them stand out and acting as a focus for their brethren in battle. Some or all of a chaplain’s power armor is usually painted in traditional Black. Kaplan Novices typically wear standard Space Marine power armor. However, the helms, right shoulder plates, and right arms of their armor are painted black rather than the official colors of the Order.
The black shoulder plate replaces the previous Devout markings that were pictured there. Once declared a novice, the Space Marine’s devotion needs no further promotion. Chaplains also often carry or use one or more primarch relics or gear to be carried or carried into battle. It is believed that something as trivial as a single gauntlet from a Chapter hero’s armor would transmit a little of the primarch’s bravery and faith to the chaplain.
