Space Marines Primaris Intercessors
An Intercessor, which may be part of an Intercessor Squad, is the standard Primaris Space Marines multirole heavy infantry unit. Intercessors are similar in combat function to a Tactical Squad of Firstborn Astartes or a Legion Tactical Squad of veteran Space Marines Legionnaires.
The most numerous and strategically diverse warriors in a Codex Astartes-compliant Space Marine Chapter form battlegroups. They are flexible enough to smother an attack or hold a position with devastating firepower. Whatever the strategic challenge, Battleline Squads are up to the task. A strong core of dependable and adaptable warriors who can set fire while advancing or holding Terrain is an invaluable asset to any tactician. In the case of task forces reinforced by Primaris Battle-Brothers, this role is filled by the Intercessor Squads.
Capable of directing overlapping salvos of firepower, Intercessor Squads often form the flexible combat core of newly formed Primaris Chapters. Many already established Chapters have begun using them alongside their Firstborn Tactical Squads. Roboute Guilliman recalls the success of the one-armed squads of the Great Crusade era well – the combination of the concentrated firepower of the Intercessor Squads and the adaptability of the Tactical Squads has proven to be nearly unstoppable. Chapters recently bolstered by Primaris, such as the Crimson Fists or Scythes of the Emperor, have found these new warriors suited to a variety of tasks. Other non-Code Chapters have found their own roles for Intercessor Squads, from the Raven Guard’s stern dropsite defenders to the Imperial Fists‘ breakthrough suppressors.
Each member of an Intercessor Squad wields a variant of a bolt rifle, the standard Mark II Cawl Pattern version of which has longer range and greater penetration than the older bolter. In addition, each Intercessor also carries a bolt pistol and frag and krak grenades. This charge allows Intercessor Squads to dominate any firefight, laying down punishing fire to eliminate all but the most resilient enemies. But Intercessor Squads are not pure ranged combat specialists. Able to cleanly smash through reinforced concrete walls, endure the heat of raging infernos, and rip xenos terrors apart with their armed Hands.
